Terms of Service
1. Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Roundsplit mobile application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
These Terms form a legal agreement between you and Roundsplit ("we", "us", or "our").
2. The Service
Roundsplit is a mobile application that helps groups split restaurant bills by scanning receipts and assigning items to participants. The App provides:
- Receipt scanning via your device's camera or photo library
- Automatic extraction of items and prices using third-party OCR services
- Tools to assign items to participants and calculate each person's share
- Local bill history on your device
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time without notice.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Roundsplit. By using the App, you represent that you meet this age requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
If you are using the App in a jurisdiction that requires a higher minimum age, you must comply with that age requirement.
4. No Account Required
Roundsplit does not require you to create an account or provide personal information. Use of the App is anonymous, subject to the rate limits described below.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
- Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or compromise the App or our backend services
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except as permitted by law
- Use the App to upload content that is not a legitimate receipt (e.g., copyrighted images, personal photos of other people, or any unlawful material)
- Circumvent or attempt to circumvent rate limits, including by generating multiple anonymous device identifiers
- Use the App to harass, harm, or defraud others
6. Rate Limits
To prevent abuse and manage server costs, Roundsplit applies daily limits on how many receipts you can scan. These limits are enforced using an anonymous device identifier stored in your device's secure Keychain. We may adjust these limits at our discretion.
7. Pricing
Roundsplit is currently free to download and use. We reserve the right to introduce paid features, subscriptions, or other charges in the future. If we do, we will give you notice and the option to opt out before any charges apply to your continued use.
8. Your Content
The data you input into the App — including participant names, receipt images, and bill data — is stored locally on your device and remains yours. Receipt images are temporarily transmitted to our backend server for text extraction (see our Privacy Policy for details) but are not retained on our servers.
You are solely responsible for the content you upload. By using the receipt-scanning feature, you confirm that you have the right to capture and process the image you submit.
9. Intellectual Property
The App, including all software, designs, text, graphics, logos, and other content (excluding your own input), is owned by Roundsplit and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
The Apple logo and the App Store badge are trademarks of Apple Inc.
10. Third-Party Services
Roundsplit uses third-party services to function, including:
- Google Gemini Vision API — for extracting text from receipt images
- Apple App Store — for distribution of the App
Your use of these services is also governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.
11. Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not guarantee that:
- Receipt scanning will be 100% accurate
- Bill calculations will be free of errors
- The App will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
- The App will be compatible with all devices or operating system versions
You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any calculations before relying on them to settle a bill with others.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Roundsplit and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the App.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or USD $10, whichever is greater.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Roundsplit, its developers, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
14. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion.
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it from your device. Uninstalling removes all locally stored data.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you must stop using the App.
16. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.
